Alexander Pearls did a great job on producing music as for 009 Sound System for YouTube music and as one of the member of a group, CIRC, before. You should react to CIRC too. Their album, Love Electric, is heavily overlooked but there are great trance music in there 😀

Man I love 009 SoundSystem but I feel you should know that Alex Pearls is Atheist, he clearly makes fun of Christian themes throughout this whole project.

kind of ironic how someone like perls who is kind of religious would co-produce a song like joan of arc. it makes sense and doesn't at the same time.

I don’t know why people crap on this music, I actually liked it. Even when it was used alot on older YouTube videos and even when the music a bit monotonous in some places, it wasn’t bad. I also would like to add that if you actually listen to Alexander pearls. Not all of his music is religious and some of it is actually anti religious, not only that but he also has music dedicated to Mary (catholicism). so it seams that Alexander isn’t necessarily religious or at least not of a particular religion and maybe his lyrics seem to be more like metaphors to help better explain life struggles and feelings, 009 sound system wasn’t the first artist to do this.

Breaking Benjamin did the same thing and they have a similar age stamp to 009 sound system, Breaking Benjamin used religious characters or metaphors to better express feelings and struggles, and Breaking Benjamin has never labeled themselves as religious, let alone Christian.

Sometimes, there are ways of explaining situations with fictional characters and metaphors.

The album cover just reeks of "NOW That's What I Call Music" compilation, like Razor & Tie or another label like that released it on a Christian sublabel.

Well, I didn’t see this review coming. This album is very nostalgic for me, as I heard the track Dreamscape as a 5 year old, and that’s the only track that I found memorable and one I’m inclined to returning to for years (same thing with With A Spirit but I only remembered it just now). Unfortunately, the rest of this album is a bit samey-sounding. As much as I want to truly love this album for what it is, I can’t help but also point out the fact that none of the tracks have a really distinct identity apart from each other. Even the tracks that surpassed the 9-minute and 10-minute mark didn’t do much for me either and sound nothing different from Dreamscape. But hey, at least it gets bonus points for nostalgia! It’s pretty cool if people love it for the days of early YouTube, and I do respect that a lot.

to be honest, Dreamscape has a nice melody and cool 2000s vibe to it. But it may be just because it's THE track from the album everyone knows.

009 Sound System (and his much larger album The Hits) is one of those albums that I know isn't very good but I absolutely love it. I love the instrumentation and chords on this thing.

It's kinda funny, I've been on Youtube since I was like 7 or 8 around 2007ish, so I was there when this was being used as stock background music… but I also don't really have any nostalgia for this? I was that kid that when he was looking for videos, I was looking for something very specific and often times 009 tracks would be used on a lot either faux-ironic stuff that I didn't like or care for, or it was… as you said, really amateurish people trying there best to make videos which I felt was kinda of awkward as a kid… oh how ironic someone like me calling something awkward…

However, in spite of all of that, in spite of me basically put 009 into the same category as a ton of other really common tacks people would use (a TON of them were really edgy), I still felt nostalgic listening to some of these… for a moment. Yeah I fell into the same conclusion you did really, really fast. I got nostalgic when I heard the opening to With A Spirit, I even kind liked it… but then I realized it goes basically nowhere for 10 minutes… I realized this about 4-5 minutes into my first listen to this a while ago, because I myself had a morbid curiousity for this stuff and it was… just… nothing.

It still feels really interesting to dig up a meme like this, because part of me sees doing this being similar to Todd In The Shadow's One Hit Wonderland. We remember 009 songs from the early days of youtube, does any of it hold up? Does any of his other stuff hold up? This time that's a no.

On a similar note (and because you mentioned him in the video), a couple of years ago I decided to briefly take a look into Darude, see if there was more to the guy beyond Sandstorm, and there actually was… from what little I previewed. I find it interesting that the guy basically had a career resurgance thanks to Sandstorm becoming a meme, that always makes for an interesting story, and the dude's music is actually kinda all over the place, with his first album (the one with Sandstorm) being eurodancy (it also runs together super hard), his second album basically being an upgraded version of that debut, albeit with more trance in. Then from there on out he kinda just did whatever the hell he wanted. He has a track called In The Darkness (Trance Mix), which is a song that feels like it smashed together both the super, super early BT-esque style of uplifiting trance with the more modern, darker and harder hitting style that you might find out of someone like Paul Van Dyk or early Armin, and it kicks ass (not that big of a fan of the Tech Mix though). He also has a track called Peace Revisted, which was released the album he dropped after his career resurgance. He brought on cello metal band Apocalypica to contribute to the track and they combined forces to create a pretty great slice of hard-hitting trance. I don't know what I was expecting from the Sandstorm guy, but I found stuff lol

Well… that was a sidetrack I wasn't meaning to go on hopefully you find that interesting at least lol. Anyways this was cool, would not be opposed to more meme reviews honestly for the exact reason I just brought up, because sometimes it might be something like this were there isn't much to the artist beyond the meme, but it could also be like if you only knew Yello because of Oh Yeah without knowing what else they've done, or if you want a non-electronic example, only knowing The Proclaimers for 500 Miles and then you find out they have a diehard fanbase and have produced an award winning musical (Unrelated to memes: There are a LOT of One-Hit Wonder bands that have massive, diehard fanbases… it legit surprises me)

Anyways this was fun, I love talking about Meme-Hit Wonders and stuff like it… which is why I'm going to shut up, because if I don't do it know this comment will never end lol.
