My wife bought one for me 18 months ago. Sold under the brand name Black Box.

Right out of the box, there was debris on the lense which produced a small shadow.
The suction cup mount broke and had to be glued.
    Then the power supply broke.

And it didn't like to work when the temp was below freezing.

I bought this camera a few weeks ago and its still a very good camera. They put a new software on it which works very good, but it has also a few new functions which aren't mentioned in the manual. (like ldw (i really don't know what this means)). And it seems like it is not possible to lock a file, which is really annoying because the 32 GB card is very fast full and it starts overwriting. But they also fixed some issues. The rotation on the mount for example isn't very loose and the sound quality is much better. Still a good and cheap Dashcam (i paid 22 Euro(about 24 US$) for it)

Mine lasted 22 months of 24hr/day 7 days a week always on, running in my car before cam started malfunctioning. Temp extremes of 28 to 109 outside temps, obviously hotter than that in car many times. class 4, 32 gig micro sd card, was good for 6 hrs and change of looped recording, Paid $14 for card, $50 for cam and $3 for a rear view mirror bracket which holds camera so much more steady, and spares footage in event your suction cup pops off in a collision. for $67 I had great piece of mind for nearly 2 years while driving and while parked. Originally bought mine based on watching this video back then, will probably get another based on value/longevity

I can't get mine to go into playback mode. when I try, the video freezes as though it took a still photo, then everything freezes. I have to turn it on and off. Still won't go into playback. Did I get a lemon or is there a solution for this? thanks to anyone who can help. I'm ready to trash it.

I just bought this and there is something wrong with the video playback. They are playing way too fast on my computer! Like, more than twice as fast as they should. I tried different media players and it's always the same. Any ideas?

Any chance I could use a small clip of your driving test for a project? No audio – just want a brief driving clip from the UK. – On another note have you tested any Swann Dashcams?

I wanted to let you know that I watched this video on the G1W Dash Cam just about 2 years ago. I was sold based on your review, and ordered one from an eBay vendor. I have been using it now since I got it and it still works as well as the day I installed nearly two years ago! Just wanted to say "thanks"!

I got this about an year ago, and well, the outer shell got deformed by the heat and the buttons stopped working. (I don't know whether the button problem is caused by the deformation, though)
It still records, but I cannot use any menus now.

I really liked the quality of the video, but well, I think I should look for something in better build quality next time.

hello, you have made so much reviews. I would recommend to ad a test from how far a camera footage can idetify a car plate (fsome seem to be readable 3-4 meters !). This would be an objective test against all these fake specs where 1080p are 720p or VGA cams or too compressed video files and so on. This would be a quick and easy but powerful test (day and night) to the optical value of a dash cam.

the reviews seem to show this cam to be good,it does have good video quality, but the cam itself turn out to be junk .mine worked fine for the first 6 months ,now it continually shuts down when being used,.

Does anyone have this annoying cracking noise when recording? I'm sure it's the buttons being loose and vibrating.

I had this exact dashcam for about a year. Original,or clones,or clones of clones, not sure really. But it seems to have the same menu structure as yours so I assume that it's the same as yours. Quite surprise that after a year's use it still works quite OK. Just a few comments to add on.

    – The suction cup mount had been improved somewhat – ball mount joint instead of that simple hinge, making it easier in installation. But it still sucks, since taking the cam out of the mount is exceptionally hard,if not next to impossible. I later found it's easier to remove THE ENTIRE UNIT (cam+mount) than just the cam.
    – For some odd reason, mine didn't do the loop recording. If the card is full,I have to manually erase/format the card to make it work again.

But yes, for its price this is quite a good deal. If it lasts just for a few years I would consider that worth the buy.

I just got mine and i think you should probably add a annotation to the video regarding the suction cup mount, it now has a ball joint with a tightening screw for a larger range of movement than the one you demonstrated, thanks for the review.

I bought this recently off amazon. The company that makes them is spytec and they have updated the older mount with a ball mount which is good.

I have 2 G1W and they are both dead. Press the power button and it starts quickly and extinguishes immediately. The great video quality at low price was too good to be true or to last. Back to shopping.

The video says it loops when the sd card is full. If I was to use a 32gb card how long roughly would that be ? An hour or so ? 3 hours? Any help greatly appreciated.

so many dash cams.I want a dash camera for my classic 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible.
I would like a dash camera that has both a front camera and a rear camera. I suppose you can buy several little cameras my one threw the rear conni-kit and one on the windscreen plus on on the windscreen molding pointing out the back of the car. I was thinking of the K1S and a cheap dash cam pointing out the front of my windscreen. That way I can get 3 cameras in my car plus a 2 prong lighter socket mount.
The K1S is a little expensive so I was thinking of going with the G1W the cheap on and the K1S together see what Amonsona .ca charges
You have helped me quite a lot with decisions.
I have my Suburban too so I also want a dual camera for that one too.
Are their any shops that sell dash cams or you have to buy them on line?
    Thank you very much again
I hope that one day soon that some one will make [email protected] mirror with a separate Rea dash cam aprox 18 to 20 feet long as Suburbans are quite long.
