    Nicely done… My GF thinks I'm a techno-mage now. 🤣
Had to drop the fan into my ultrasonic cleaner but got it cleaned out and back up and running in no time.
    Thanks very much.

I've used my HP 2000 for 7 years now. I might be one of the few still using it! Amazing! I need to clean dust out of the fan, so when I get the thermal paste, I will have everything I need. Thank you for your videos, they are wonderful.

Before I took apart this customer's 2b09wm HP 2000 to replace the charging port and clean fan/thermal paste, I could tilt the laptop and hear something metallic loose inside. What I found was a clip, about 8mm x 8mm, square with an open side and overall length about 17 or 18 mm long with a bevel cut and a small notch on one end. Haven't found where it belongs. Laptops prone to overheating I install a thin copper shim with small amount of thermal paste on both sides. Videos show lower temps doing it this way.

Thanks a lot!! I follow your instructions step by step. In my case, I needed to replace the cooling fan. Bought it on ebay. Installed everything back again. Then my screen was completely black…I freak out for a few minutes. Found the problem: RAM module was not installed properly! Installed again and boom! it worked!!! Thanks again Brian!!! It was really helpful.

I am curious about the other chip on the motherboard. Not the CPU, but what looks to be the southbridge chip or maybe northbridge? It looks like it had a passive heatsink on the bottom panel. I have this same laptop, mine had a big white square gel on the inside, like some type of thermal pad, covered the whole chip. I didn't see any of that on yours nor on it's little heatsink unless it just blended in with the silver color. Mine fell off regardless, but I saved it in a small container so it doesn't dry out. Should I place that back on, or could I use some arctic silver 5 on top of the chip to transfer heat, or is it completely fine just to leave it off all-together as it seems in your video. Thank you for the great video!

The video is quite informative. One thing it DOESN'T tell you is, the plastics used on the ends of flat plug-in ribbons in other parts, get brittle with age. They can be tough to disconnect or reconnect, without them snapping, crumbling. I got the laptop apart. I guess it's like going under the hood of old car and realizing you have to deal with old hoses, belts, wires. And finding out some bolts are frozen in place.
I got the laptop apart. Reassembled it as best as I could. The flat keyboard ribbon… the USB plug-ins, snapped, despite my efforts and precautions. It DOES power up …… but that's all. I might try a USB Wireless keyboard, just to see if THAT'S a solution.
The laptop is over 5 years old now. Owes me nothing at this point. Time for a new one !
