I have been reluctant to upgrade my 10 years old Sony 7.2 system, which i got as gift.
I had no proper knowledge about audio systems and I didn't quite understand most of the long videos here on youtube.
then I came across your channel. MAN! I LOVE YOU. and I love your content
I have been binge watching this channel for weeks! and decided to go with 5.1.2 system
my only question. I have 45 m2 concrete room and space is not an issue.
should i get 2 SVS 1000 Pro or 1 SVS 2000 Pro? to go with RP-8000
Great advices!
Do i need a receiver? I have an amplifier, & i heard subwoofers are plugged into the wall…what is the purpose of a receiver?
Great info for newbies. Well done.
Are you xo
Only hifi dude I watch
So do you prefer manual setting over auto calibration? If so, why?
Hi Andrew I watched this video again and, although it is excellent and very informative/educational, I was wondering how audio tech consumers in 2022 would handle new tech like WISA. I think the need for less hassle with wire connection has reached its peak, especially since a lot of people are either moving or selling their homes post-pandemic. Are there any new things to consider with wireless tech (especially since you are in the process of building your new area….)??
Thanks for the great video, Andrew. Watched it again today as I was doing the subwoofer crawl. It seems like my sub sounds louder in the adjacent room (kitchen) which is connected to the living room in a corner. I suppose I need to find another subwoofer placement and try again. Any suggestions besides that? Thanks!
Excellent video and very helpful, especially the phase control. I just got a Speedwoofer 10S and set it up wireless to replace my ancient M&K V125. Not only does my Integra speaker setup not recognize it, I also find that it interferes with my Control 4 remote. Odd. Roughly 25’ from my gear closet and through one wall. When I go away from wireless and back to the cable it works fine. But the output of the Speedwoofer, at 400w, is considerably less than the 125w M&K in the same physical location. Any ideas? I was in your former home of Austin this week. I can’t understand why you would want to move away from the insane 24 hour traffic there…
Thanks a lot. This was eye opening
you did not go over/explain LFE + main…
Your face look like a decent actor in a movie tbh lol
Thanks. I just got my first subwoofer ever (budget but mighty Jamo 210) and l really needed this. THANKS
Should have thought of all those receivers who don't have base mgmt…
Question for you, Andrew: You seem to favor non-ported subwoofers over ported. Why is this? (Congrats on the new house and thank you for the excellent videos!)
Excellent video, very helpful. I subscribed!😀
I watched several subwoofer placement videos this was the best explanation of the process that I’ve seen thank you.
I love all your reviews and advice. Thank you!
So for my home theater we hid the sub behind a wall. I've cut out a hole and even boxed in the monolith sub again to try to divert air through the hole, but still isn't great. Is this just pointless? Is it not going to sound good unless it's in the same room?
Finally broke down and added a sub to my vintage 2 channel system, a Klipsch R-10SWi. I mostly stream via a Bluesound Node 2i. So my CD as well as Tidal runs through the 2i. The sub connected to the Node's sub out. On initial install, I was ready to pack the sub up for a return. Sounded like a bad boom box regardless of the gain/roll off setting. Luckily, for the sub, found this video. Used this technique to properly set and position. Thanks to the sub being wireless, the setup was just a matter of sitting it in my listening position. Much better. Found that the Sub-out on a Node is active regardless of the setting in BluOS. In either setting the volume control in BluOS will match the signal going to the sub. Can't say that Scott LaFaro's bass now makes angels cry, but it does widen the sound-stage for most of the music I listen to.
Maybe another vid for 2+ subs for subs that can't be easily moved. Also, noting for single sub out from the avr or dual outs and how that would change the process.
Either way, thanks.
Step 1. Have subs so small u can move them around.
I laughed outloud at like 1:50 when you just set that sub on the couch. That's a no for me dawg
Hi Andrew, how does the crawling thing works when you have 2 subs? Once i find the best place i put the 1st sub at this location, and keep "crawling" while the 2nd sub is still at the MLP position whit both sub to "On" to find the 2nd good location? Thanks a lot!
Hi there, I always enjoy your perspective on Hi Fi stuff. My situation is rather unique, so I was curious if you or any of your listeners had any good advice on what to do with my circa 1995 Plexus Sub woofer. The unit has (2) SEAS speakers. About 10 inches in diameter. It was originally designed to use a dedicated EQ which went in to the system between the pre amp then the amp, or in my case the tape loop. Remember those? Any way, I currently have the sub woofer hooked up to the "B" speaker terminals and the bookshelf speakers hooked up to the "A" speaker terminals. The EQ box has died and I can not find a technician I trust to fix it. I was wondering if I should simply use the "A" speaker terminals directly to the subwoofer then use the subwoofer out jacks to go to my bookshelf speakers.
Very nice video and this is what i was looking for as i have no experience setting up subwoofers. One question though about the phase : if you go with 2 subwoofers i read an article that said that you have to put the phase of subwoofer A to 0 and subwoofer B to 180. This seems strange to me and i would like to ask your opinion on this ?
I actually understood that, thanks a lot
I disagree with you that the most important speaker in a system is the sub. Most audiophiles would say the center channel is the most important. You also state that using 2 subs [or more] is not true to achieve the best bass. Again, most audiophiles and audio experts would argue that 2 or more subs do sound better resulting in a much smoother integration of bass in a system.
Hey Andrew,
Thanks for this great video!
I have a question, what is the "LPF for LFE" used for, and what is the correct setting for it?
Thank you!
What about setting for bass like -> Subwoofer mode = LFE or LFE+Main and LPF for LFE??
So do we never turn back the crossover knob on the subwoofer after putting it at the maximum??
Like we can all just put it anywhere.
good review
You my good sir, seem to be my doppelganger 😀
How about the equalization filters that are automatically applied exclusively when the Auto Calibration is done?
These videos are kinda flawed cause not all of us have e luxury of putting it where it sounds best.
wicked informative! thank you. And keep the out takes in – they're fabulous.
I need help I have a 5 speaker system and a sub and my Sony receiver is not picking it up I don’t know why
First class!
I see that the subwoofer has two RCA inputs, L and R. how does that modify installation? Should I buy RCA y-cable to get the most out of the subwoofer or just use the indicated LEFT input?
I have Been able to Do test sound on all speakers but not on the sub🤔
👏
This Video makes my preparation easier. Thanks Man!
