Mine quit with NG LR error code. Common problem, very unreliable reciever. The thing it is, it was working fine until I hooked it up to the network. Then it failed, won't reset (yes of course disconnected everything even speakers). Will not do anything but issue that error code. NEVER NEVER NEVER buying Onkyo again. Receivers from the 60s work and this one lasts two years.
I have owned 2 Onkyo's and both had audio switching problems soon after warrexpired the last one was TX-NR717, I have learned my lesson now I own Yamaha
at 2nd grade I had Onkyo as my nickname!
Who wants to set up all those speakers and run the wires. Not me! I just run 3.1 Dolby.
If you like HDMI to work don't buy onkyo, if you like to have sound for more than a year don't buy onkyo. Or Harman Kardon.
Where should I plug the second subwoofer into 646? Into PRE-OUT RCA below subwoofer RCA or should I use the Y splitter RCA cable?
A tv on a receiver wtf !??
I paid 260 for this and couldn't be more happy. This an upgrade for me coming from 607.
going based on just pure sound quality and power which is best the tx-nr646 or the sony str-dn1070? help anyone 🙂
+CNET Hello, I've got a question for you guys. Can I replace my Onkyo HT-S990THX receiver with the TX-NR646?
Does is support 4:4:4 color subsampling and HDR pass-through?
Let me rephrase that. They gave me in store credit and I had left over money to purchase on other items.
Got this as a replacement for my old ish 636 that kept shutting off randomly. Geek squad couldn't fix it, plus the 636 is discontinued and the 646 is newer and I paid $399($100) cheaper. It's a no Brainer. Hopefully there's no issues with this one because the reviews are mixed.
My receiver and I'm happy with my choice. Might not be pretty to look at but who cares. What you get is an excellent value for money receiver with loads of power and features. Highly recommended buy.
I have to agree that the onscreen is to the point, why need a fancy screen. The remote is perfect and simple. You want to see a complex remote, see the Pioneer SC-71, I just bought one and returned it all back to the store 48hrs later and got the Onkyo. The remote is terrible and the receiver front panel is not too user friendly, cluttered and too fine print.
Much better than the Denon AVR X2200 imo which lacks punch in the bass, i'd rather go with good sound and more difficult to use than bad sound and easy to use
Hdmi boards still fail like before????
I really like onkyo ,but still don't see any reason to change from my Harmon that has same hookups .and is a few years old now , Sony sound doesn't compare to either one in my book .
seriously, why hate on the on screen menu ? it does what it's supposed to do it doesn't need to look like a windows OS. Also other brands focusing more on streaming is what prevents me from buying their products.
I like Onkyo good and solid performers.
Mmm pretty attractive!
