AUKEY ONLINE:

Most new device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they’re widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we’re lucky- as we work on our review.

Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It’s a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it’s a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity.

For about … a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there’s followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many people revisit the device to see how it feels a few months later, because everyone’s already focused on the next big deal coming down the pipe.

So let’s do something about that. Let’s see how we feel about devices when they’re not shiny and new anymore. This is After The Buzz.

The Galaxy Note Edge is definitely the ultimate Samsung smartphone. This device packs absolutely everything the company’s R&D department could throw at it, even though most of us know that’s not necessarily a good or useful thing. After more than three months since our full review and many of our comparisons, it’s time to re-visit the Note Edge and tell you which of these features you’ll actually use on a daily basis, and which were simply gimmicks.

I just bought the Galaxy Note Edge international version for $400. I chose it over the LG G4 which costs $350 (international version) at least in my country. I have had really great experience with Samsung phones except the S3. My father still uses the Note II with scratched edges (Bought when it newly came out). I think if you keep the phone well managed, it can last forever. I just love the Note Edge. Threw Nova Prime and AC Display Lock screen on it and it's perfect than ever! I use the phone for watching movies and my TV series and also some fun gaming such as Basketball Stars etc (I have a PC for gaming). The phone never heats up and the battery life is awsome! I am pleased with the device overall. Just one thing, the accessories are hard to get.

Amazing camera, annoyingly buggy Lollipop update, Samsung left us in the ditch, no more support a year later, and I miss the camera buttons on the edge. I was annoyed that T-Mobile didn't offer the white version.

My vanilla note 4 gets very slow and buggy when its storage is close to capacity. That could be part of the issue. Many devices are this way.

I've had this phone since the day it was released in my city on christmas eve and at this point I am having a sort of love hate relationship with it. First of all samsung really messed up with the "fast charging". It's bullshit. Second the camera is the best out there but only in good or decent lighting. I tried taking pics of fireworks this 4th of july and let me tell you ive never had a more frustrating experience doing so. If you are a big snap chatter like I am then stick with the iphone 6 or 6 plus because they really excel in night time pictures. The edge screen really comes in handy but is just flat out boring now since nothing new has been released. Next complaint is the battery life. At first my battery would last me all day it seemed with excessive use but now it only lasts me a maximum of 3-4 hours and It's very upsetting. Overall I love this phone dearly and have had some good times with it but I'd be lying if I said I never had serious thoughts of trading it in for an iphone 6 or 6 plus. Ive only had to restart my phone 4 times since purchase which actually isnt bad. But my phone does ocasionally bug out or force close apps which can be very VERY upsetting. Also the texting on this phone is horrible. Very slow and laggy depending on what keyboard you use and theres no group chatting which for a 20 yr old such as myself can have you feeling pretty left out while all your friends are chatting it up in a group chat. Oh and also this phone is NOT for the small handed. I have average hands they are definitely not small and at times I find it very difficult to use this phone with one hand especially while on the move. The quality and graphics are outstanding so are the speakers but overall I'd give this phone a 7 or 7.5 out of 10 on a good day. Theres my 2 cents hope it helps 🙂

I can't speak to the edge portion, but I do have a Galaxy Note 4. I have to say for me personally, I find that I use the stylus more and more the longer I have the phone. As I do for many of the other more advanced functions of the phone.
I've had iPhones, Windows phones and now the Note 4. I'll probably be staying with the Note line for a while. Mainly because every time I use a phone that doesn't have a stylus, I end up missing it…

Does anyone know if the note 4 or the edge will get any of the new touchwiz features. I mean what is stopping the note from being a touch finger print sensor instead of swipe? Is it hardware related or software?

I put my Note 4 in a Samsung case – zero issues with damage . I keep it clean inside using a top system cleaner that gets rid of cookies etc. No issues with lag. You pay a lot extra for the Edge models, $300 in Australia. I don't think it's value for money or worth it.

I don't think I've held an android phone for more than 6 months because they don't age well and they have a horrible return on their investment. The only exceptions have been vanilla android devices like the nexus/moto X and HTC running GPE.
