Just put a 512 GB SSD on my i7 w/ 16Gb RAM PC (under Windows 8.1) and it boots now for 15 seconds only! Just before I moved to an SSD my old drive was spinning like forever even after loading up the Windows. Now after a full and fresh installation it is lightning fast – 15 seconds for a cold-start boot-up!

i want to use the HHD as my secondary drive and the ssd as my main drive. Does it matter what drive goes in which spot, or is that all done in the bios?

Second question: If i have a usb recovery key, can i just install the ssd where the hhd goes, and the hhd where the cd player is, then do fresh system restore from that key. would it install in to the ssd since its where the hhd used to be, or itll still go to the hhd, i then need to clone the hhd to the ssd??

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I got sick of my 5400 RPM slow HDD on my Acer TravelMate 5720 last year so the solution was to get an SSD. The old hard drive had 120 GB and the SSD has 128 GB which isn't too bad. I also upgraded my RAM from 2 to 4 GB. SSDs for old laptops with useless hard drives makes a real difference. For a desktop though (which I have), I would still recommend at least a 7200 RPM hard drive, maintaining it properly to maintain it's performance.

This is the best convincing video for anyone to upgrade to SSD. He really said a lot of things while the system with HDD was booting up.

I reached 500mb/s on an ssd. Maybe it is because it used the newer sata 3

it seems only me who failed to transfer the data from the HDD to SSD using more than 5 different free software: samsung tools, macrium, easeus, minitool magic, etc… all failed, but when I call the computer shop, they say they can do it.. but secretly, i dont know how youtube can recommend it 😆

I can vouch for the jump in performance. Recently upgraded from a WD Black 7200 rpm drive and when I ran the Win7 performance test [scale of 1.0 to 7.9] the hard drive performance went to 7.9 (max). Boot up time is cut by about 2/3.
