From the muddy depths of Acer comes this beast that will rarely boot and overheats once running. Here are some tips on how to solve such issues.

not at all. all correct drives will work. the only concern is sometimes laptops have little adapters on the pins for in between the drive itself and the laptop connection. usually this is on SATA connections and HP/Dell's, etc. Don't worry about registry unless you are upgrading a very old o/s to a very new one. then you have to change AHCI settings, thats a entirely different video. g'luck!
Wouldn't you come across registry errors when you try swapping the hard drive? I know the model of laptop is similar, but wouldn't it still reject it since it isn't exactly the same hardware?
I've actually never heard of Spudgers before. they look damn handy! I repair computers and laptops essentially every day. so anything like that will come in handy. thanks!
If you do a lot of laptops ,then check out IFIXIT. Look at their Spudgers. They have metal and plastic ones, and are fairly inexpensive. They make life easy.
