Theater Room Construction

Theater Room Construction

This room incorporates everything I’ve learned from Mike Holmes about doing a basement properly, starting with the styrofoam exterior waterproof shell (inside the concrete basement shell, which is itself surrounded on the outside by a waterproof membrane), and not forgetting to fix up the builder’s somewhat rough-and-ready attempt to insulate and vapour-barrier the rim joints. Inside the styrofoam then goes a fairly standard stud wall construction, except that now there’s no need to insulate between the studs. Lots of wiring, and finally it’s ready to paint and install the theater gear. Hurray!

I wonder, it has to be the best thing to watch the construction of the theater in the theater.

Nice but that took two years?? Me and 3 other guys did about the same thing (took a completly unfinished basement and turned it into a theater room) with one of my neighbors basements in around a month. It wasn't that hard. Build the studs, drill holes for the wires, drag the wires where they need to be, put up drywall, insulate it, paint it, lay the carpet, frame the screen, install the screen, then install all the electronics. Wasn't that hard.

You had the right idea trying to isolate your ceiling, but there are a lot of vibration paths from what I can see in the 'soundproofing' methods you used here. If you aren't satisfied with your results, I recommend reading Rod Gervais' book on recording studios (same principles apply to home theatre) and modifying your space.

In any event, you should be proud of putting in the work to transform the basement into a space you love.

Broooo! I just watched this entire video thinking I was going to see an epic, finished theater. You've got way to much going on in your "theater." Nice try though
